A visit to the vet

Cannon loves meeting new people and going for car rides but it has not taken him long to figure out that he doesn't really like going to the vet.  After our last trip home he developed a little rash and was already "breaking out" with little bumps through out his body.  We brought him in and he was treated for Folliculitis.   Our 6 month old puppy is on antibiotics.  I snapped a few pictures of him being impatient while we were waiting for the vet.

It took us a while to teach him to wait by the door when he wanted to go out and use the bathroom.  He didn't understand why this wanted behavior didn't work at the vet.

While at the vet we also set up his neutering.  This process was more complicated then normal because Cannon has/had a condition known as Cryptorchidism, meaning hidden testicle.  One testicle did not descend properly which leads to an increased risk of testicular cancer.  Cannon was very expensively neutered Thursday.  He has more antibiotics, some pain meds and will have to return in a week to remove his stitches and  3 staples.  Poor pup.

Living up to his namesake

When I was a student athletic trainer working football at LSU we routinely had the field set up long before the game was ready to start.  This left plenty of time to walk the field and enjoy the game day sites and sounds.  During one of those times a fellow athletic training student pointed out that the very large man we were approaching was Billy Cannon.  Before we could introduce ourselves to him he quickly introduced us to a little girl accompanying him, "There is someone special I want you boys to meet", it was his grand-daughter, Billy Cannon.  

Our pup is named after LSU's only Heisman winner, Billy Cannon.  Here is a video of our little Heisman returning his first punt.

The picture featured in the video is Dr. Martin J Broussard, LSU's athletic trainer at the time providing care for the infamous Tiger.

Dr. Martin Broussard, known as "Doc Broussard" served as the athletic trainer for the Tigers for over forty years. 

The main training room connected to Tiger Stadium is named after Doc Broussard.  We'll strive to provide Heisman quality care to our Cannon.

Starting things off....

There have been lots of changes for the newly-wed Swansons.  First, we got a dog, Cannon Roux Swanson.  He is a good pup that loves to sleep, poop, cuddle, chew, run, sniff, lick, pee, scratch, jump, fetch, cry, snore, dream, poot and love.  All done in no predictable order.

There have been some changes in my work life.  Basically a part of my company split off to join a different Physical Therapy group leaving me with a choice to make.  On one hand I could stay with the Doctors, Coaches and School that I have worked with for a year and get a paycheck signed by a new company.  Or, I could stay with the same company and be moved to a new school having to build relationships and trust with a new set of coaches, athletes, and administrators.  I choose to stick with the same company and move on to a different school.  Practice starts in two weeks.....

Besides The Cannon, we also have another new roommate.  Karen is an athletic trainer who works with Gina at Samford.  She moved in with us about a week ago after getting put in a tight spot with her previous roommate situation.  Karen was hanging out here a few nights a week anyway, sooo...
